Debugging

Mail services can be run interactively in debug mode allowing debug messages to be written to the screen. The following instructions outline how to run the MailEnable services in debug mode:

MailEnable SMTP service in debug mode

  1. Open up Microsoft Windows regedit and navigate to: 32 Bit OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\SMTP or for 64 Bit OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\SMTP
  2. Set the decimal value for the following keys to 2: Activity Log Enabled and Debug Enabled 
  3. Next stop the SMTP service within the MailEnable administration console under: Servers > localhost > System > Services
  4. Open up a Windows command prompt and type "MESMTPC -debug" (without quotes)
  5. When the debug session is complete revert the registry keys back to 1 and to restart the SMTP service within the administration console.

MailEnable MTA service in debug mode

  1. Open up Microsoft Windows regedit and navigate to: 32 Bit OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Agents\MTA or for 64 Bit OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Agents\MTA
  2. Set the decimal value for the following keys to 2: Activity Log Enabled and Debug Enabled
  3. Next stop the SMTP service within the MailEnable administration console under: Servers > localhost > System > Services
  4. Open up a Windows command prompt and type "MEMTA -debug" (without quotes)
  5. When the debug session is complete revert the registry keys back to 1 and to restart the MTA agent within the administration console.
