We're also experiencing this issue, several times a day.
We have also loss of messages (maybe this is related...).
Upgrade to last version (6.70 professional) doesn't solve the problem. A support ticket was opened today.

Hi, I've recentlly updated my ME Pro 2.5x to pro 5.51 on a MS Windows Server 2003 R2 standard SP 2. On system overview, I've noticed that SMTP outgoing queue length is always at 0 even if there are messages in the queue (see screenshot at http://goo.gl/J3ExI).
