Migrating Exchange 2003 mailboxes

Post by willip »

Tried using Generic Mail server and it works poorly. Problem here is the exchange server is in our company domain, lets call it mycompany.com. However, we host 400+ domains and 1000+ mailboxes. Now, I need to migrate emails for myclient.com over to mailenable (we're moving clients over and will be using exchange only for internal company emails). Now migration doesnt work as I need, since the user "JoeUser", whose email is JoeUser@myclient.com has to log on to mycompany.com domain on exchange. SO.... The migration utility will allow the user to log on as JoeUser@mycompany.com and will create a mailbox under the domain mycompany.com for a user with JoeUser@mycompany.com, an email that DOES NOT EXIST on the exchange server.....

Any way to do a better migration from exchange 2003?

Or, conversly, and more labor intensive, we create the mailboxes under the proper domain mailbox, with the proper emails attached (main and aliases). How do we move their existing emails over?

Hi,

One approach is to do the migration and allow the migration utility to create the email address for the users as JoeUser@mycompany.com. Once the migration has completed for all accounts remove the domain "mycompany.com" under the postoffice and then add the myclient.com domain. The console will prompt asking you if you would like to map an email address to all mailboxes under the postoffice for the domain.
