Relay not working

Post by iedesnoek »

Hi all,

Maybe this has been asked before: Smart host relaying to another SMTP host is not working as the host seems to reject any attempt to authenticate

The messages I get in my debugfile are

My provider tells me to contact mailenable. What should I do?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi,

The remote mail server is returning the 503 error indicating that authentication is not enabled. You can probably produce the same against the remote mil server by telnetting to the host name over port 587 and issue the "auth login" command.

Please see:

05/03/19 06:58:15 ME-IXXXX: [D25D8F143892486F8C0F3C2E0AADF81F.MAI] Remote server returned a response indicating a permanent error. Server Response: (503 5.5.1 Error: authentication not enabled**)

Try disable the authentication option under the smart host configuration window in MailEnable and try to smarthost without authenticating against the remote mail server to see if this works.

Hello Ian,

I turned off authentication on the Smart host (vps.transip.email is the host to relay to, and I do not administer that)
and I get this in an undelivered email

Recipient: [SMTP:snoekiede@gmail.com]
Reason: Remote SMTP Server Returned: 554 5.7.1 <149-210-224-92.colo.transip.net[149.210.224.92]>: Client host rejected: Access denied

And this the debug log

05/06/19 12:02:04 ME-I0024: [9A1E880CF98B424FA817826B83E60274.MAI] SMTP Server is forwarding all mail (directly) to SMTP Hosts [vps.transip.email:587].
05/06/19 12:02:04 ME-I0026: [9A1E880CF98B424FA817826B83E60274.MAI] Sending message
05/06/19 12:02:04 ME-IXXXX: [9A1E880CF98B424FA817826B83E60274.MAI] DNS resolved to the following record: IP Address=149.210.149.126, Family=2, Type=1, Protocol=6
05/06/19 12:02:05 ME-IXXXX: [9A1E880CF98B424FA817826B83E60274.MAI] Remote server returned a response indicating a permanent error. Server Response: (554 5.7.1 <149-210-224-92.colo.transip.net[149.210.224.92]>: Client host rejected: Access denied**)
05/06/19 12:02:05 ME-E0034: [9A1E880CF98B424FA817826B83E60274.MAI] RCPT command to all recipients produced an error.
05/06/19 12:02:05 ME-I0050: [9A1E880CF98B424FA817826B83E60274.MAI] Send attempt completed successfully (1.188s), but some recipients did not resolve
05/06/19 12:02:05 ME-I0053: [9A1E880CF98B424FA817826B83E60274.MAI] Message generated a recipient failure message to sender.

Getting a bit desperate here. (I get the feeling that there is something at the transip site)

Grtz,

Hi,

The problem here is not MailEnable and with your provider. You need to inquire and have them provide the exact details they require smart hosting via their SMTP service. Show them your log snippets of the failure message.
