By IP but not by hostname

Post by Kimd »

Hi this may be more of a DNS issue but i have an odd problem and was hoping someone here can help.

I have ME PRO 3.63 and am uing Outlook 2010 to connect. In my outgoing mail server if I specify the IP address it sends mail no problem, but if i specify the hostname it fails. However, If I ping the hostname, it returns the same ip i put in the outgoing server setting? This is true for any computer I setup. I tried Outlook 2007 and 2003 and same problem.

I have a MX record that points to mail.bsshost.net, and mail.bsshost.net points ot the correct IP.

My POP server is by hostname and that works. Am I missing something?

Help!

Hi,

What is the error that the clients displays when using the MX record as the outgoing server? Are you able to telnet to mail.bsshost.net from the client machine and establish a connection to the MailEnable SMTP service on port 25?

E.g: telnet mail.bsshost.net 25
