connection to AD not working

on a fresh install of ME Pro 8.6, the connection to the active directory seems to be broken. if we set a password in the postoffice of ME, authentication works. but if we change the AD password we cannot login with this password, only the one set in ME works.

how can we debug this? especially, which logs in ME or in the WIndows Event viewer are relevant?

this i windows 2012R2.
