Domain name settings

I'm trying to configure ME for handle email for mydomain.com
ME will operate at the public IP defined by hq.mydomain.com
mydomain.com has an MX record which specifies hq.mydomain.com
mydomain.com has an SPF record that includes hq.mydomain.com

Under SMTP properties I entered:
Local domain name: mydomain.com {our regular domain name}
Default mail domain name: hq.mydomain.com {ID to be used in SMTP HELO}

But diagnostics reports:

Default SMTP Host Name hq.mydomain.com By default, this server will identify as hq.mydomain.com for inbound and outbound SMTP conversations. Pass

Default SPF Domain hq.mydomain.comt No SPF record found. You should consider creating an SPF record for hq.mydomain.com or change the SMTP Default Host name to a domain with an SPF record Warn

Have I entered the domain and hq in the correct places? None of the settings I've tried under SMTP properties have worked.

Under SPF properties I entered:

The host names you have specified in these fields are for the SMTP host name bindings. They are not related to SPF records for your domain. SPF records need to be added in DNS.

Do you mean you are unable to send/receive emails or are you referring to the SPF checks in the report.

Sorry, I meant to say SMTP properties, not SPF.

If the diagnostic report is warning there is no SPF record found for the local domain name you have set under the SMTP properties then you need to set one for the domain in DNS.

The SPF record is properly defined under mydomain.com. Thats not the issue.

The basic question is how to configure ME to identify the host as hq.mydomain.com in the SMTP exchange, rather than the default machinenane.mydomain.com

For mydomane.com our MX record points to hq.mydomain.com, which resolves to the public IP for the mail server. We also have RDNS configured for hq.mydomain.com All of thus is working perfectly with our previous mail server. The only question is how/where to specify hq.mydomain.com vs mydomain.com

Under the SMTP properties you need to set the "Default mail domain name" as "hq.mydomain.com". This will be used in the SMTP conversation as the SMTP EHLO greeting name.

That's exactly what I need, so my SMTP properties look like this:



But I still have a problem with the diagnostics:



I need to set the "Default SPF domain" to hydrocad.net (where the SPF record is located)

I guess there is no answer for this from ME. I have a proper SPF DNS settings and I still get this warning. Not sure what ME wants to find.
