Outlook 2000 timeout

Post by sindrehi »

Hi,

Outlook cant connect to ME Pro. I get this error message: 0x8004210A
...Timeout serverPOP3...

I traced this error on microsoft.com and find a fix. But they say this problem accours when you have to log on with SAP and SSL. I dont use either on the ME Pro.
When I connect to other POP3 servers I dont get this error.

Is there anything I can do in ME pro to prevent this to happens. I dont want to say to all my customers that they have to download and install time consuming bugfixes from microsoft if I dont have to.

Hello,

I had this problem to, and then i found that the problem is because i have a antivirus appliance filtering all connections... and making time-outs to.

Do you have a antivirus appliance ?

Is this happening on all clients? Have you tried to connect from a client outside of your domain? Sergio is correct this will usually be a timout or connection issues between the client and the server.

you say it does not happen to other POP servers are these outside your domain and the MailEnable server is in the domain? Maybe this is where the connection issues reside?

Have your machines been service packed up to the latest patches?

Have you tried connecting to the server using another mail client on the same machine that is giving you errors? You may have to delete the POP account in oulook and then reconfigure sometimes resetting the MBX will help.

Hi,

I se I have been a little incorect in my first post. This happens with Outlook, all other mail program tested works fine. It happens from my machine, inside the servers nettwork, on client machins outside servers nettwork, and to different domains/postoffices.

It do not happens all the time, sometimes all works fine. And the mail is usually sent and received. The "hang" problem seems to happens after send and receive operation.

There seems to be a problem with Outlook 2002 and ME Pro on our system as well. We have 150 clients using this system and occasionally Outlook 2002 will bring up send and receive errors.

The maddening part is that the problem is intermittent. Most of the time it will work fine but occasionally an error message will come up. This suggests a combination of variables playing together at the same time to cause the errors.

I hope ME admins are researching this problem.

No we are not researching the problem. You will need to check the configuration of your network this will nearly always be network configuration or client issues. If you think you have discovered a bug in MailEnable then please lodge a support form with all the relevant and supporting info. What I can tell you from this side however is that there are no reported defects and the MailEnable POP service is very widely used and has not had any changes made in recent times to affect it in the way you are reporting.

I very occasionally get Outlook saying that it cannot send or receive with timeout errors.

On those occasions it is because Outlook had crashed/hung previously and it didn't shutdown correctly. A quick look at the task manager and deletion of the rogue Outlook thread has it working again...

Just a thought!

Hello guys,

Like i said, in other post, in the past i had the same problem.
After a change almost everything in my network I found that the problem was in a anti-virus appliance that filter all incoming and outgoing email.

In this weekend, I use my outlook to receive 2 diferent accounts from mailenable, a one came from the filtered ip and the other from non filtered ip.
The filtered ip time-out and the other continue receiving the emails.

Take a look in your network, for IDC, Antivirus, firewalls with special filtering, etc.

Very possible Sergio in fact it is very common to find further information on this sort of thing in the AV vendors Knoweldge Base I know Symantec has many articles outlining errors and fixes along this vein.
