SMTP problems

Post by sindrehi »

Hi,

Some of my customers suddenly have problems sending mail. All have worked fine for weeks, but today more than one customer suddenly phoned and said that the he could not send mail. The mail stayed in outboks. Is it possible that this is a problem with my server, or is something else. I have hundres of email accounts so a couple of problems is not statistically much, but it was strange. The system report says all work fine. They still got mail in.

So what could be wrong? They got the errror 0x800CCC0D.

Regards Sindre

Is it possible that their ISP used to have port 25 open and has now blocked it?

ISP

I dont think so. It is a big ISP so the problem would be bigger if they start to block port 25. But when that is said. If the customer change smtp server to the ISP server it all works fine.

A lot of ISP's even the bigger ones block SMTP port 25 and make you use their outgoing servers, so I would check with the ISP.

Check your smtp_access file or database table. We've ran into a problem when using MySQL as the database and when the table got over up to about 70,000 records the server ran slow and wouldn't allow people to send e-mail and some users got error messages saying server was to busy. After cleaning up the table, everything seemed to send 10times faster.

The problem was the ISP

Hi,

The ISP had closed the port. So problem solved.

Yes that was the original diagnosis.
