how to ssl webmail?

Post by crackdaddy »

i am using mailenable ent 3.5(not beta)
plesk windows 8.4
--------------
does anyone know how to setup webmail for hhtps use?

the default install of mailenable creates 2 iis sites for webmail
1)webmail(mewebmail) - no host header - all unassigned ips - port 8427 - no ssl port
2)MailEnable WebMail - host header is assigned with each domain (webmail.domain) - ip is 127.0.0.1 - port 80 -no ssl port

----------------------
i have tried adding port 443(ssl port) to both iis sites, but i cannot get the webmail site to load, not sure what i am missing..i am sure its simple, but i dunno, i dont have time to figure it out at the moment.

does anyone know the correct config for using https for webmail access?
-any thoughts?
thanks

I am not sure, since I did not try it yet, but I think it should also be possible to get SSL working with hostheaders.
The requirement will probably be that you have a valid multidomain certificate.

=== EDIT ===
I can confirm, that it is indeed no problem to have webmail running for multiple domains with a single IP. You should correct your technical document in the Knowledgebase. The value of Mail Enable is ever increasing.

HOWTO (works with Windows Server 2008)
=======
1. Get a multidomain ssl certificate covering all domains for which you want ssl with correct subdomain names or wildcard *
2. Set up that certificate with your IIS hosting.
3. Administer headerbased webmail in the mailenable administrationconsole with portnumber 443 - leave the IP field untouched - (you have to use here domainnames according to your ssl certficate)
=> this leads to an almost correct applicationHost.config on your webserver.
4. search for the domainnames administered in 3 in the applicationHost.config change the http in the found lines to https
=> it works you have ssl for the domains with a single IP
