Regular MELDAP failure with 8.51

Post by RNEUSCHUL »

Since upgrading to 8.51 last night we've seen the following issue repeated several times

1] email notification

MailEnable LDAP Service

MELDAPS has stopped.

Parameters
----------
Value: False (Stopped)

2] Event log

Log Name: Application
Source: MELDAPS
Date: 12/06/2014 23:51:13
Event ID: 1280
Task Category: None
Level: Information
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: host-name.tld
Description:
The description for Event ID 1280 from source MELDAPS cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

256
D:\MAILEN~1\LDAP\slapd.conf
ldap:///

The specified resource type cannot be found in the image file

Event Xml:
<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
<System>
<Provider Name="MELDAPS" />
<EventID Qualifiers="16384">1280</EventID>

<TimeCreated SystemTime="2014-06-12T22:51:13.000000000Z" />
<EventRecordID>1669124</EventRecordID>
<Channel>Application</Channel>
<Computer>host-name.tld</Computer>
<Security />
</System>
<EventData>
<Data>256</Data>
<Data>D:\MAILEN~1\LDAP\slapd.conf</Data>
<Data>ldap:///</Data>
</EventData>
</Event>

LDAP services were working fine under the previously installed version 8.03.

Since nothing else on the system has changed this looks very much like a bug.

Check your windows services under administrative tools.

When I upgraded to 8.50, it went from "start automatically" to "manual" and every reboot, LDAP service would not start. Not sure if your problem is similar, but when I changed it back to "start automatically" the problem went away.

I haven't braved the upgrade to 8.51 yet, waiting for next weekend.

Tks: it's not the service startup type. This is a failure some [variable] time after the service starts.

I've changed mine from Manual to Automatic and Restart Service after failure. But I also noticed that this and a few services run under .\IME_SYSTEM versus Local System. Which is better (performance) and more secure?

Am now also finding that the ME Indexing service refuses to respond correctly to a "restart all" command within the ME console.

Looking at it right now in the services console: the Indexing Service has been in a "stopping" state for the last hour. Only fix is a reboot. This is not the first time this has happened.
