Getting "MESMTPCS Inbound Queue Last Poll" emails

Post by iltera » Thu Jun 11, 2015 2:00 pm

Can someone explain what is the reason of this email?

The content is:

MESMTPCS Inbound Queue Last Poll

MESMTPCS appears to be having difficulty processing the inbound queue.

Parameters
----------
Violated Threshold: Maximum Value
Violated Threshold Value: 00:20:00
Value: 00:20:32.5552740 (20,5m)

I started getting this email more than once a day. A month ago didn't even get any of these once in a month. It made me curious. Is something going wrong or need my attention (may be change some settings or something like that?).

Thanks!

Hi,

The notification was sent from the MEtray alerter option. The alerter monitors the queue activity and will alert the notification address when a rapid increase of the queue length is detected. The threshold values are hard coded and cannot be changed in current revisions. The queue may have been triggered because the threshold was violated and the messages were then processed anyhow.

Thank you very much for your answer, Ian.

Yes, I want these alerts to show up on my email address, but when there's smth I don't understand happens, I try to search, ask, look for information about that issue. And I still don't understand the reason for this one.

Does that mean that my server suddenly gets a lot of emails?
Or something is delaying their procession and they queue up and suddenly flush through MTA?
What do these numbers mean?
"Violated Threshold Value: 00:20:00
Value: 00:20:32.5552740 (20,5m)"

Can you please explain more?

Hi,

That is correct. It was an influx of messages that came into the SMTP inbound queue. As to what they were you need to inspect the SMTP activity log files in respect to the same date/time you received the notification for more information as to what triggered the alert. Maybe you had an influx of spam messages.

Thanks again, Ian.
As I understand, I have nothing to worry about since I can't even do anything to interfere this process. Now I can sleep well :)
