System Requirements

Post by kather »

Hi,

on http://www.mailenable.com/mail-server-requirements.asp the minimum system requirements are stated. Until now we don't have any problem. Using Enterprise version 9.x with about 60 post offices with an average users of 5 we have a low using mail server; around 2000 mails a day (which around 50% filtered spam).

But that's not the question. Getting more users now using EAS we noticed that sometimes the mail server takes a long to time respond; especially at the first download of messages. We see also in the Windows Task manager that the IME_ADMIN uses 25% CPU.

We have a VPS system with 8 Gb RAM and 4 cores; OS = Windows 2k8R2. Will an upgrade of the cores make the server more faster? Or more RAM? Or both?

And yes we have found the white paper: https://www.mailenable.com/support/Mail ... epaper.pdf
We don't use any DB icw ME only the TAB files.

Anyone any ideas?

thanks Walther

Hi,

How many of the clients are syncing via EAS? Are they all mobile users or are some syncing via Outlook EAS? Most mobile devices will only request the data for the folder they are viewing on the device and will not pull down all the whole mailbox and thus having less of an impact on server resources. Outlook EAS on the other hand will request to pull down the whole mailbox. If mailboxes contain large amounts of data then this may take some time to download and thus will have an impact on CPU during the synchronization. Therefore adding additional cores will help if you have them available. But spikes in CPU will persist until all the clients have synced.

not much with EAS about 17 clients but all of them using phones and Outlook.
we will increase the cores and see if its an improvement. And yes spikes will always be there.

thanks
