IPHONE INTEGRATION

Post by ENERGY »

I have uk website hosted by Mr Site.com . They use mailenable as part of thier hosting service . I have been using it problem free for three years -until there was a recent upgrade to mailenable or at least the one supplied to Mr Site.

My colleagues and I are on the road and until the change we were able to access the website and email inbox/calendars whilst mobile .

Since the change we can still access mailenable but now its virtually useless as we cannot navigate around the inbox or calendar . also the calendars entries are on one line ,hidden and do not print out the entry
Unlike destop access the phones do not pick up the scroll bars to navigate and only therefore show the top two messages/calendar entries.
before anyone says" mobile phone problem" this happens on all our phones primarily iphone4 and blackberry torch but other androids as well,

I have tried Mr Site support but frankly they are as much use as a chocolate teapot - their reply is that "its a third party programme off the shelf"

does anyone else have the same problem accessing by iphone and not being able to navigate ?
better still is there a solution ( other than finding a new webhost when its comes to subs time )
Thanks

Do you know what Edition and Version of MailEnable your host is using?

Version 5 has some significant improvements over version earlier versions because the webmail client can adjust to the capabilities of the device (eg: smaller icons/change orientation/text view/etc).

Webmail will work on Mobile devices, but there are better solutions for accessing messages/contacts/appointments on iphone and blackberry; specifically free solutions available with SyncML and CalDAV - which provide synchronization between the device and the server.

Funambol can be used on blackberry or iPhone to provide calendar sync/access via SyncML (Calendar/Contacts/Tasks).
The messages can be accessed via IMAP or BlackBerry BES/BIS if available.

CalDAV also gives excellent integration with the iPhone Calendar.

The interface/experience of a client/phone application will be far superier than using browser - since it is a client app that uses a lean delivery protocol (and do not need to deliver the application over the wire/air).

MailEnable does have a lightweight mobile webmail client for accessing messages, but it does not provide calendar access.

This can be done with version 4 - particularly if your ISP has premium or enterprise editions.
Version 4 Professional Edition still has CalDAV which will is a really good solution for iPhone and requires no extra s/w on the device.
SyncML support and CalDAV are available in Enterprise Edition - and will work on either device if you install the SyncML client.

Perhaps someone could post the version that they are using. It would be interesting to know if the problem is occuring with 5.x or 6.x releases - or indeed whether the users posting to this thread are spambots or legitimate queries.

This post still seems to be active, although i purged some potential spam. Since this post originated, Exchange ActiveSync has been released for MailEnable, and this provides the best integration for iPhone and others - http://www.mailenable.com/activesync
