messages sitting in outbound queue

Post by rfwilliams777 »

I have a strange oddity and I don't know why this is happening. I am able to send and receive e-mails fine as well as lots of other people; however, there are about 60 e-mails sitting in the outbound queue that had been sitting there (some) for days. Is there a way I can find out why? Is this a ghosting issue (like something isn't clearing)? I can manually delete them, but I want to know why this is happening and not wishing to delete something that was important that never got sent or was important, did get sent, but wasn't cleared in the queue.

I did a look up and their mail server is not on any lists I have nor is their IP address bad. I am not on any blacklists, so I don't have a clue why the messages are not going through. :?: Although it is possible that their mail server could be down or having issues, but I want to make sure there are no issues on my end that is creating this issue.

I am also facing similar problem. SMTP outbound queue has 73 mail waiting.

Possibly SMTP outbound not trying all MX hosts for domain?

ME Ent 7.07
Win 2k8 R2 x64

Nik

I asked someone to help me look into this to see if this was an SPF issue or a DNS resolution issue on my end. He says that everything on my end looks fine--but he is not a ME expert. He did suggest that it could be that those recipient mail servers are tarpitting. If that is true, that is really stupid on their end to be doing junk like that.

Is it possible that I need to change my DNS servers? My ISP's DNS didn't seem to resolve correctly or as fast so I had to use one of AT&T's DNS servers to handle the primary DNS for ME and MXScan.

I think I might have a resolution to my issue. I had my "subsequent retries" every 60 minutes up to 48 hours. The problem is the mail server never saw the 48 hours because at midnight I have a program that restarts all ME services (this was done by me to clear memory for a new day). So every time I did the restart, it would restart the 48 hours countdown. This would be the same if you restarted the server manually. So I changed it to 4 hours of trying. If it cannot send after 4 hours, the message will fail. I wouldn't mind having it there longer to be nice to people, but I'd rather them know that the recipient's mail server is not going to respond for whatever reason rather than nobody knowing anything at all. Perhaps this will help.

So far my outbound queue is staying cleaner. So I fixed my issue with the above post.
