macOS XMPP/Jabber Chat (Messages for Mac) Configuration


SUMMARY

This article explains how to configure macOS Messages to connect with MailEnable (Version 10 and later).

MACOS CONFIGURATION

Please ensure the macOS Messages application is open and follow these instructions:

  1. Choose Add Account.. from the Messages menu.
  2. Select "Other Messages Account" and Click Continue.
  3. A new dialog will be shown tited "Add a Message acount."
  4. Select "Jabber" as the account type.
  5. For the username, enter your email address, and corresponding password.
  6. If you have not configured DNS records for chat discovery, then complete the following manual steps.
  7. Uncheck automatically find server and port.
  8. Enter the "Server" name of the host running MailEnable. It is ok to just use the domain portion of your email address.
  9. Uncheck "Use SSL".
  10. Set the port as 5222.
  11. Click the Sign-In button.

MORE INFORMATION

To simplify client connectivity, it is recommended that you enable the "Allow email addresses for usernames" setting via the MailEnable Management Console under Servers|localhost|Auth Policies.
