Please use extreme caution when editing the registry.
It is also recommended that an emergency repair disk is produced before you begin executing any of the steps outlined in this document.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because MailEnable creates data files on your machine, MailEnable can have difficulties in determining which settings/files should be removed by the un-install.

First attempt to run the Un-Install application from Add/Remove Programs - this should remove all components with the exception of some configuration data.

The following procedure can be applied to manually remove MailEnable or any of its residual components. (Please note that some of these steps are likely to cause errors because the component has either been entirely or partially removed:

If removing MailEnable Standard Edition, then proceed to Step 3.

1. Open the Internet Service Manager. This can be found under (Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Internet Service Manager). Examine each of the Web Sites installed on your computer. If any of these sites contain either a MEAdmin or MEWebMail virtual directory, then remove it. Once removed, close the Internet Services Manager.

2. Open Component Services (Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Component Services). Browse the folder tree under Component Services->Computers->My Computer->COM+ Applications. Remove any COM+ applications that have "Mail Enable" in their title.

3. Using the Windows Service Control Manager, stop any MailEnable Services that are running on the machine. The Service Control Manager can be found under Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Services.

4. Using the Windows command prompt, go to the C:\Program Files\Mail Enable\Bin directory. Run the following applications with the -remove option (note some applications may not exist on your machine):

MEHTTPS.EXE -remove
MEIMAPS.EXE -remove
MELSC.exe -remove
MEMAPIS.exe -remove
MEMTA.exe -remove
MEPOC.exe -remove
MEPOPC.exe -remove
MEPOPS.exe -remove
MERADMS.exe -remove
MESMTPC.exe -remove

5. Using the command window opened in Step 4, run the following commands from the command prompt:
%WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32 /u MEAOAM.DLL
%WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32 /u MEAOAU.DLL
%WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32 /u MEAODP.DLL

6. The registry will show if the location of some of the MailEnable directories has been changed (non default). Check these records and make a note of the locations of the data directories for later deletion from the directory structure;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->MailEnable->MailEnable->Activity Log Directory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->MailEnable->MailEnable->Application Directory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->MailEnable->MailEnable->Bad Mail Directory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->MailEnable->MailEnable->Configuration Directory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->MailEnable->MailEnable->Data Director
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->MailEnable->MailEnable->Debug Log File Directory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->MailEnable->MailEnable->Mail Root
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->MailEnable->MailEnable->Program Directory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->MailEnable->MailEnable->Quarantine Directory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->MailEnable->MailEnable->W3C Logging Directory

From the Windows command prompt, type 'regedit'. Delete the following registry key and its children: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable. Exit the registry editor.

From the Windows command prompt, execute the following commands:

net user IME_ADMIN /DELETE

net user IME_USER /DELETE

7. Using Windows Explorer, delete the C:\Program Files\Mail Enable directory and all its contents.

Note: Some files on your machine may be locked and it may be necessary to reboot your machine to remove any locks on the files before attempting to delete them.  Now also delete the folders from the locations that you recorded earlier from the registry editor.

8. Enterprise Edition users will also need to remove the MailEnable database from any third party database storage software i.e. MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server.  Also the ODBC DSN can be removed.
