Licensing

MailEnable is licensed via a perpetual license for the version purchased, with no annual fees required. Upgrades to the next major version can be purchased at a discount, or an annual fee for upgrade protection (Annual Upgrade Protection) can be purchased at a much greater discount, which entitles the user to any major upgrade while under this Annual Upgrade Protection. These licensing options are explained in detail below.

MailEnable Product Licensing

The different editions of MailEnable are licensed according to the following table:

Product

License Type

Details

Standard Edition Freeware License MailEnable Standard Edition is provided free of charge and there is no need to register this application with MailEnable.
Professional Edition Perpetual Major Version Per Server License * A license is purchased for each server instance running MailEnable. Under this license, you are permitted to use the major version and any hot fixes/minor version updates for that version.
Enterprise Edition Perpetual Major Version Per Server License * (As above)
Enterprise Premium Perpetual Major Version Per Server License * (As above)

* NOTE: Perpetual licenses are charged as a one-time license fee for the given major version of MailEnable. There are no ongoing license charges associated with the license itself.

Annual Upgrade Protection (AUP) & Free Upgrades

MailEnable's Annual Upgrade Protection (AUP) allows registered users to upgrade to any version of their registered product that is released during their coverage period.

Those who purchase MailEnable version 4 or later (or upgrade from earlier versions) will receive 12 month upgrade protection. When the upgrade protection window lapses an upgrade protection renewal notice will be sent to the registered email address. You will then have the option to renew your upgrade protection or to let the protection lapse.

To review prior purchases of MailEnable, please log in to your Online Services account to access the payment receipt which will have the date of purchase recorded.

If you are eligible for a free upgrade, it will be made available under your Online Services account.
For more information please contact sales@mailenable.com or refer to the AUP Frequently Asked Questions.

The warranty associated with such product purchases is limited to 12 months from the date of purchase, after which the provision of product updates through hot fixes will become discretional.

Upgrades

MailEnable version numbers are formatted as follows: MajorVersionNumber.MinorVersionNumber

Under MailEnable's perpetual license, all minor version updates are provided free of charge. Minor version releases often include software revisions as well as increases in functionality. You will be entitled to a free software upgrade to the current major version if you have purchased a full version of MailEnable in the last 12 months.*

When a new version is released, MailEnable will continue to provide support and critical/security fixes for the previous version for at least 12 months after release of the new version.  After this time, fixes will be supplied on a discretionary basis and only paid support requests pertaining to the superseded version will be serviced.

When upgrading from an earlier version of the product to a new major version of the product, a discount may be applicable.  MailEnable may also provide additional discounts or incentives through promotions from time to time.  For more information on upgrades see: www.mailenable.com/upgrade

Virtual Servers

Virtual Servers require a separate license for each instance. You will receive a 10% discount on the purchase of your second license (provided you purchase using the same email address).

Backup Servers

If you wish to run MailEnable Professional or Enterprise Edition on a back-up server as well as your production server you will need to purchase a second copy and license that server also. You will receive a 10% discount on the purchase of your second license (provided you purchase using the same email address).

Transferring Licenses

Under some circumstances, MailEnable will allow you to transfer your license to a third party.  In order to transfer a license to a third party, you must have purchased the license directly from MailEnable (i.e. you cannot transfer a license that is bought from a reseller).

Fully paid perpetual licenses that have been purchased directly from MailEnable can be purchased by another party from the current license holder. Such transfers can only be achieved by having the current license holder notify sales@mailenable.com of the transfer and providing the email address and name of the new owner.

MailEnable will then assign that license to the new owner and the new owner will be able to manage the license under their own online services account. Please note that a service fee of $30.00 USD is applicable for managing the license transfer (this is necessary to reasonably cover the administrative cost).

Support tokens

When you purchase MailEnable, you are provided with two (2) support tokens that are intended for use in assisting you to install and configure the product. These tokens expire after 3 months from the purchase date. Some support categories do not require the use of a support token. See www.mailenable.com/support.asp for more information.

How do I license MailEnable?

MailEnable Professional and Enterprise Editions are licensed on a per server basis. There are two primary ways that you can register/license these versions.

For Computers Connected to the Internet
When you install MailEnable Professional or Enterprise, a registration application is made available under the MailEnable program group. This registration application queries your system and submits your registration details to the licensing server. You will need to be connected to the Internet to use this utility to register MailEnable.

This utility provides a number of payment mechanisms ranging from online credit card payments to faxed purchase orders. If you register using online credit card details, MailEnable will immediately acquire a registration key and register it with the server. However, if you choose any other payment mechanism, it simply lodges your registration request with the payment server (assuming that you will reconcile payment by fax or purchase order). Once MailEnable receives notification of payment mechanism, your license key will be generated and mailed to the nominated email address.

For Computers not connected to the Internet
If your computer is not connected to the Internet, you will need to lodge your computer details via MailEnable's web site. Once this has been processed your license key will be generated and mailed to the designated email address. The license key that you receive must be manually entered into the registration utility (located under the Mail Enable program group on your server).

Licensing disputes

If ownership of a license is found to be in dispute and reasonable proof of ownership cannot be established, the license will remain with the registered owner until agreement can be reached on license ownership, and all parties notify MailEnable to that effect.

MailEnable licensing terms do not explicitly grant the right to transfer ownership of licenses to the licensee; therefore any license transfers are at the discretion of MailEnable. If the licensee wishes to transfer their license, they should notify MailEnable with the details of the new license holder. It is also the responsibility of the original license holder to ensure that the intended license holder understands the End User License Agreement as outlined in MailEnable's licensing policy.
