ME Enterprise does have some spam filtering; however, it is not (in my opinion) for commercial use if you are hosting a busy single business or hosting multiple businesses. The spam filter gives false positives often with no recovery or easy to use logs to determine what happened to the email. As a ...

If you go to the SMTP properties, you can choose the option for the authenticate outgoing emails. This requires that the user uses their actual email address and password to send out email. This avoids spoofing as you were referring to.

Depending on network throughput, you may have issues where users have missing emails. I also don't know if this syncs all folders such as Calendar and Contacts (if they used the webmail).

What version of Windows Server are you running? What I have been doing once a month is not only archiving the mail server logs (zipping the previous month), but I also run disk cleanup and defrag. Believe it or not, that has actually also helped with performance.
