Re: Log file date format

It could be something to do with the huge number of people who jumped in to support the idea.

Re: Inbound dropped in Junk E-mail folder

Finally found the solution under Servers > Localhost > Extensions.

Still puzzled regarding no notification that something has dropped in the Junk E-mail folder, though.

Re: Inbound dropped in Junk E-mail folder

After a bit more digging, it appears that the line below is used by TPG to prevent replies being sent to their automated emails. Precedence: junk I'll be dumping them as an ISP soon, so it doesn't really matter. The question arises, though, how do ME users know that emails are being dropped in the P...

Inbound dropped in Junk E-mail folder

I'm using ME Std 10.15, which I didn't think had any spam detection/filtering built-in. Yesterday, for the first time in 15 years, I had an inbound email dropped into the Junk E-mail folder and I'm trying to figure out why. The PO debug file contained this: 08/26/18 14:38:58 [FB8D1EF9690240F9B2C8C2C...

Re: Fighting Hackers

These "ylmf-pc" bots (any many others) speak out of turn. That is, the mail cleints do not wait for the SMTP server to properly greet them before sending their HELO/EHLO. For some years I've run postfix as a front-end MTA to my ME server. I know from the postfix logs that every one of these ylmf-pc ...

Re: Queued mail for delivery on SMTP Activity Log

Not that a 250 response code means a lot when talking about hotmail/outlook.com.

Search for "outlook silently discards".

Re: Default mailbox quota

Thanks Ian. Unfortunately, that does not set the default for new mailboxes, which is the problem I encountered. Under Messaging Manager, Properties, Administration tab, the default was set not to limit but new mailboxes were consistently created with a quota of zero KB. I set the above to on and app...

Default mailbox quota

Hi, I recently migrated my may server to a new host and updated to 9.14. I have found that, when creating a new mailbox, "Mailbox has a size limit" is checked by default and the limit is zero KB, even though there is no limit at the Post Office level. Is there a way to reset the default to no limit ...

Log file date format

I asked about this way back in 2005 but . . .

Why do we still have no choice but American dates (mm/dd/yy) in the logs? Surely it can't be that hard to provide an option.

Re: Can the logon user name be the full email address?

Don't understand why would you want an @ in the domain/PO name. Hope you are not renaming to something like that.

I just set up two POs with full domain names. Periods aren't rejected - unless perhaps you are trying to put a period at the beginning.

Re: Can the logon user name be the full email address?

Ah! Thanks for refreshing my vague memory about the default PO.

What may not be obvious is that the default PO is set under ME Management > Servers > Localhost.

Re: Can the logon user name be the full email address?

It will be if you name postoffice with the full domain.

It used to be that you just needed a mailbox name (and no postoffice name) to log in if you only had one postoffice.

I think that changed a while back so that ME always expects mailbox@postoffice logins. I could be wrong on that.

Re: Sending to disabled mailboxes

Thanks, Ian.

It's no big deal but I was curious as to whether it might be more efficient to reject at the SMTP step, rather than accept the message and have the MTA process/bounce it.

Sending to disabled mailboxes

I've noticed that the SMTP connector will accept a RCPT TO: for a disabled mailbox. It's not until delivery is attempted that the message is bounced with an NDR. However, when the SMTP connector gets a RCPT TO: for a non-existent mailbox, it will be rejected immediately as undeliverable. Shouldn't t...
