I am sucessfull with a 100% catch rate on the PDF and e-card SPAM, all are DNSBL or no PTR/MX records. I am using ASSP for filtering, it has minimal server performance impact. ASSP recognizes them as spam with 100% catch rate. I will see what it actually catches it for.. It might be for RBL or SPF.

Rule of thumb... backup the MailEnable config before upgrading.

Run the install and select preserve existing data. You have a backup to fall back on if you have problems.

Are you telneting from the ME server? had to ask

What is the latency and packet loss between the ME Server and the remote one. We have had issues lately with some inbound mail due to packet loss on one of our upstream provider's network where it peers with a tier1 provider.

try to telnet to the remote host on port 25. you might get a better error message.

Just curious, is your dns server local on the ME box or another server? If another server, setup a DNS server for caching only as it helps prevent timeouts..

use mefilter www.mefilter.com it has blank filtering for PRA, FROM, SUBJECT, BODY, etc.. plus alot more..

There could be a malformed message in the queue. I haven't seen that in a long time though. You have several options to test with. 1) Move all mail out of the inbound queue and restart the MTA..
