Extremely rude

So your lack of knowledge is enough reason to write that extremely rude rant about MailEnable ? In my opinion you were way out of line and should be apologising to the staff at MailEnable for your bullying tactics and rude behaviour. Why don't you go and investigate some other mail products and spar...

Blacklist for Dynamic IP's

It would appear that the majority of spam we receive gets sent from dial-up accounts. Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent RDNS blacklist particularly for blocking dynamic ip's.

Maximum Message Size

This was supposed to be fixed in Pro 1.18 but there was a problem and a hotfix was issued that corrected the problem but caused others. Pro 1.19 works correctly with a size of 0.

Bad mail

I had a similar problem after installing the hotfix to the SMTP service for 1.18. Re-installed the original 1.18 SMTP service and the problem went away.

Reprocessing log files

This is the command I used on my Win2000 server to reprocess old log files (after renaming the existing files): for %a in ("C:\Progra~1\MailEn~1\Logging\SMTP\ex0404*.log") do awstats.pl -config=mailenable -update -logfile="C:\awstats\tools\MELog 2AWStats.exe %a | " (This is all one line and will pro...

MailEnable & AWStats

I have developed a replacement for MELogConvert.exe which correctly handles message sizes for emails. I looked at the source code for MELogConvert.exe and saw that it was too simplistic to ever get the correct email sizes out. To use the replacement you simply edit your awstats config file and repla...

Spam filter

I currently use MEFilter which is doing a great job. I tried SpamAssassin which promised to teach itself about spam but, as you mention, running in a single thread is painful. Didn't try SNIMTA as I could not see any option to hold mail for eyeball checks.

AVG Command line scanner

Email technicalsupport@grisoft.com and ask for AVGSCANL.EXE, they will send it to you. Make sure you ask for the correct file as they tried to tell me that AVGSCAN.EXE does not support exit codes (which we all know by now) even though I mentioned AVGSCANL.EXE. I did get the file on my second request.

43 byte problem

It would appear that the log converter is reading the sc-bytes entry for successful email receipt (which is always 43 bytes) instead of the cs-bytes entry which has the correct size of the email. Any plans for an update to fix this ? Apart from the size problem, the log converter works very well for...

Reverse DNS blacklisting

Probably just paranoid. If the IP address is found on the blacklist then the email is not received at all, the connection is just closed. There will therefore not be an email message to look at. Also, the connection is terminated before any subject line is received. If the IP address has done enough...

I followed the instructions as listed and the install was fine. The operation of the filter however leaves something to be desired. I put on two filters, one for spam words and one for bad attachments, and the spam word filter appeared to take out every email that went through the system (even ones ...
