Outlook 2010/2013 Slow Refresh Any Suggestions?

Post by grahamdms »

Hello, We currently just upgraded our mail server. We upgraded to Server 2012 R2 with Mysql. We have noticed that emails on devices like phones, blackberries and androids send mail and work fine very fast. Now users that have downloaded the Mapi connector and configured to our mail serverwith outlook 2010/2013 have very slow refresh times. When they open there outlook and try to say for example send and new email message it is very slow synchronizing to the server. Outlook freezes for 20 to 40 seconds each time or just crashes. It seems like it lags as its connecting back to the mail server to update folders. Any suggestions on how we can fix this? We put in a new dual xeon server with 64gb of memory and raid 10 with 4 x 4tbs hdds sata 7200 6gb. We are really stumped on this. Could it be something to do with the upload speed offered from our isp? Currently we have 25mb down and only 2mb upload. Could this be the issue? I would think mail to phones would lag as well if this were the case. Very strange issue and hoping someone out there can help.

Thanks Graham

Hi,

I would say this is more a client side issue than server. First is to ensure that you have not enabled "Troubleshooting mode" within the MAPI client configuration window under the "Troubleshooting" tab and also ensure to set the MAPI connectors option for hiding the synchronization progress dialog. The option is located under the MailEnable MAPI toolbar option. Set it to "Hide Synchronization progress". Next is to update any client machine not running the 1.63 from our downloads page as there has been various fixes to accommodate connection timeouts. It would also be beneficial disabling any Antivirus email scanners running on the client machine that are scanning the IMAP and SMTP ports along with Outlook Antivirus plugins.
