Emails to gmx.co.uk bounced. Could ADSL be the problem?

Post by tim.nbj »

Hi Ian

I am trying to email someone with a gmx.co.uk email address using MailEnable's SMTP relay but I am getting a bounce message with the following errors:

554-gmx.net (mxgmx014) Nemesis ESMTP Service not available
554-No SMTP service
554-Bad DNS PTR resource record.
554 For explanation visit https://www.gmx.net/mail/senderguidelines?ip=95.172.233.137&c=rdns

I do actually have a valid PTR which is as follows:

w-137.cust-17877.ip.static.uno.uk.net

I have configured both the "Local domain name" and "Default mail domain name" boxes with the above value. Do you know what could be the problem?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that some email providers reject all emails that come from mail servers located behind ADSL connections. My copy of MailEnable is behind an ADSL connection. However, I have configured SPF, DKIM and DMARC correctly for my domain which points to the static IP of my ADSL connection. Could the ADSL be the problem? If yes, is their a way round this? Is there a way I can make gmx.co.uk think that my connection is not an ADSL connection?

Thank you very much.

Kind regards

Tim

I had a similar problem once, any interaction with gmx.co.uk failed, and it remained like that for weeks.
Then, after a while, it started working again, probably after an update. Is the issue still there for you?
