Mail Delivery Failures

Post by Paul Gerrard » Fri Nov 19, 2004 3:28 pm

Hi,

In sending mail to a friend of mine, the remote mail server bounces my messages.

I get the response...

Remote SMTP server returned 504
HELO command rejected: Malformed helo

I'm stuck - any ideas what might be the problem?

Thanks, Paul.

Hi,

Do you have the "ehlo" commands enabled under the SMTP>Advanced properties"? Navigate to Connectors>SMTP>Advanced SMTP.

Could you also show the log extract of when the message bounced?

Hi,

Yes I have - all the commands are checked. What I did discover was that it makes a difference what the 'local domain name' is set to. My ISP set it so an IP address. When I changed it to the domain name of the server, the queued emails were then accepted by the destination servers. It looks like osme mail server demand you provide a domain name rather than ip address on the HELO command.

Paul.
