Correct RDNS setting for AOL?

Post by Kogo » Mon Feb 28, 2005 7:27 pm

AOL is rejecting email from the domains hosted on my MailEnable server.

I have several domains, each with an MX record like this:
mx.domainname.com

So, for domain1 it will be:
mx.domain1.com

AOL's RDNS tool says:
Failure! Unfortunately we were unable to resolve Reverse DNS for the IP address you entered. Contact your ISP or e-mail administrator to modify these settings.
I have a PTR record pointing back to my own domain (id-8.com) for that IP address, but I don't have a seperate ptr for each domain pointing to the same IP...

Sooo... Do I need to get a seperate PTR for each domain, or do I need to change the MX record of all my domains to mx.id-8.com?

I think that you need to register the main domain with AOL Postmaster

http://postmaster.info.aol.com/whitelist/

You need to enable your SPF records atleast for the main domain, I used the SPF record option Dynamic sender list

I hope this can help you
