Command files being created in root QUEUES\SMTP folder

Post by jcauthen »

I have a problem where SMTP command files are being created in C:\Program Files\Mail Enable\Queues\SMTP instead of C:\Program Files\Mail Enable\Queues\SMTP\Outgoing

It seems to be very intermittent. They're only appearing every couple of minutes and most command files are being put in the proper directory.

All of the command files which are being placed in the C:\Program Files\Mail Enable\SMTP do appear to have matching file in C:\Program Files\Mail Enable\Queues\SMTP\Outgoing\Messages

Over a week the number of command files in the C:\Program Files\Mail Enable\Queues\SMTP folder builds to overy 1,000.

Most of them appear to be NDRs bound for fake addresses, but this is nonetheless somewhat disturbing as we might be losing some outbound mail and I would never know.

I've been manually moving the command files into the C:\Program Files\Mail Enable\Queues\SMTP\Outgoing directory, but there are usually quite a number of them that have duplicate filenames (not all) already resident in the Outgoing directory, and the files are never identical.

Anyone else seeing this?

Hi,

I found the same problem last week (only with NDR's) and submitted a bug report to MailEnable. They supplied a fix which has corrected the issue.

I suggest you get hold of support in order to get the fix as I see it is not yet on the hot fix page.

Cheers,
Brett

Hi SoHoAlex,

could you share the hotfix, or just tell the way you got it ?

I got one from this topic http://forum.mailenable.com/viewtopic.php?t=13525, (its a new mesmtpc.exe file, the property says its version 1.00.35 from the 22 feb 07) but it didn't fix it.

Thank you.

Hi,

The required hotfix can be found here: http://www.mailenable.com/hotifix/mesmtpc.zip

1. Stop the SMTP Service.
2. Rename "MESMTPC.exe" ithe MailEnable BIN folder.
3. Extract and copy the downloaded hotfix to the BIN folder.
4. Copy the bounces into the outgoing folder again.
5. Restart the SMTP service.

regards,

MailEnable Support.

I think the issue is fixed on my server, but not only thanks to the hotfix.

Here is a message I sent to ME support today :

********************
In fact, I had 2 headers files for each message, one in the \Mail
Enable\Queues\SMTP folder, and the other one in \Mail
Enable\Queues\SMTP\Outgoing folder.

And for each message of course, the message itself in Mail
Enable\Queues\SMTP\Outgoing\Messages.

I could release the messages by doing this :

1- Delete the header files in \Mail Enable\Queues\SMTP\Outgoing
2- Move the header files from \Mail Enable\Queues\SMTP into \Mail
Enable\Queues\SMTP\Outgoing

NB : I had previously installed the MESMTPC.exe patch provided here
http://www.mailenable.com/hotfix/mesmtpc.zip (see topic
http://forum.mailenable.com/viewtopic.p ... highlight=)
********************

Hope this help.

Was this issue announced via the mailing list ?

Whats the point of having it if we never get notified ?

Ok, probably the wrong place to suggest this but...

How about someone at mailenable's end, as well as the mailing list using the "announcements" section of the forum to list these sort of things, hotfixes/issues/new release's etc?

That works as long as you come to the forum every day, thats why mailing lists for things like this are important.

Agreed Martyn, just thinking if they posted/duplicated the info here it might be helpful as there are times i've never had a mail from the list when there perhaps should have been.
