Can the logon user name be the full email address?

Post by ChrisCO » Mon Mar 30, 2015 2:36 am

Can the logon user name be the full email address?

MailBox@PostOffice is very confusing to end users. They want to type in the ".com" or ".net", etc.

Is there a way to require the user name for webmail/smtp/pop/etc be the full email address or just the mail box name based off the email hosted domain name?

Thanks,
Chris

It will be if you name postoffice with the full domain.

It used to be that you just needed a mailbox name (and no postoffice name) to log in if you only had one postoffice.

I think that changed a while back so that ME always expects mailbox@postoffice logins. I could be wrong on that.

Whatever postoffice is set as the default one, if you have multiple postoffices, is the one where only the user name is required although username@postoffice is also accepted for that one as well.

Naming the postoffice with the domain name is the right way to go. There is a utility to help in renaming an existing postoffice: http://www.mailenable.com/utilities/addons/RenamePO.zip.

Cheers,
Brett

Ah! Thanks for refreshing my vague memory about the default PO.

What may not be obvious is that the default PO is set under ME Management > Servers > Localhost.

PhilB and Brett, thank you for responding.

Yeah, the thing is...when you go to create a new Post Office...the Post Office Name field does not allow for @ or .(periods) to be part of the Post Office Name. So that option is out.

I will explore the link you provided.

Thanks!

Hi Brett,

So far, the rename tool seems to be working. Why in the world did ME decide to not use a standard convention for the user name as being the full email address?

Thanks again,

Chris

Don't understand why would you want an @ in the domain/PO name. Hope you are not renaming to something like that.

I just set up two POs with full domain names. Periods aren't rejected - unless perhaps you are trying to put a period at the beginning.
