Outbound queue on SMTP growing on v1.51

Post by json »

The last month or so, I've had problems with outgoing SMTP on 2 instances. I looks like the SMTP service get into a "mode" where sending mail just fails. All it takes to get it back on track, is stop the service and restart it again.

Is this a known issue? I'll be upgrading soon, but I can't find anything about the problem on the "fixed" lists of the latest releases.

regards,
Steen

Hi,

In regards to your problems with the SMTP service crashing, there was a fix in version 1.53 which addressed the problem where the SMTP service could crash if some command files were malformed. I suggest you upgarde to the latest version to see if this recitfies your problem.

The latest version can be found here:

If your SMTP service is not crashing however what makes you think the service is not sending mail, what type of messages are in the queue have the tried to be sent?

You could try using the MEQUEUEOVERVIEW.exe in the MailEnble\BIN directory this will show what the messages in the queue are wating for.

The SMTP service/server isn't crashing, I keep getting SMTP inbound messages, but no messages going out!

If it happens again after I've upgraded, I'll try MEQUEUEOVERVIEW.exe

Thank you!

BTW - For your information on this wehn the service is restarted really the only thing that would affect your situation here is the fact that the service restart will reset and try to send all messages again. One thing if you have this problem again I may be interested in is if the messages in the queue have not been tried to be sent, you can check this by selecting the messages in the ME Admin program SMTP outbound queue list.

Some of the messages had been retried as many times as 10, and before restarting the service I always select all the messages and "send all now", with no luck, but thanks anyway!
