Viruses Sneaking Through

Post by criz » Thu Jan 27, 2005 2:00 pm

Hi there,

I have ME 1.54 running on Windows 2000 Pro.

Everything's going good apart from occasionally a Netsky variation virus slips through, and is picked up by my desktop virus checker.

I had been using 1.51 and F-Prot and hadn't seen this behavior in a long time (3-4 months). After upgrading to 1.54 it has started happening again. It might be coincidence, but to me seems related to the upgrade.

We don't get a HUGE amount of mail and only use POP3 service. Could it be that whatever spammer sends these viruses hits us with a burst of virus email that the server is unable to cope with? If so, what should I change so it can handle more virus checking at once?

Also, could you tell me which log files I should be looking in to tell what the virus checking is doing?

Thanks in advance for any ideas,

Criz.

I think I see the problem - in the updated version (1.54) you have to specify virus filtering in the filters at the top.

Another quick question for the filters - if I want to filter out, say, the word "porn" in any instance - like:

porn
!porn!
iwanttofilterpornrightnow

Do I use just: porn or should I be using porn* or *porn* ??

Thanks.
