Checking For Messages

Post by kdehl113 » Tue Sep 27, 2005 4:26 pm

Mailenable provided me with what registry keys needed to be changed/added to make Pro automatically check for new messages. Which works great, it has a small popup that tells you there is a new mail message. This is done through the notify.asp file. After upgrading to 1.6, this no longer works properly. I still get the notification, but the webmail list does not automatically update anymore.

I tries Enterprise on a test server to see if it has this feature, and it doesn't work there either. I had an older copy of my webmail, and went through some of it's webmail files trying to see if something changed, but I don't see anything.

Does anyone else have this problem or know how to make the list refresh when a new message arrives?

As far as I can recall, it never refreshed the list automatically - so you would need to modify the asp to make it do so. presumably with some javascript.

Odd,

I don't remember modifying it. Guess I will have to look for some Javascipt to do it. If this fuctions the same way in Enterprise I suggest adding this in to the code. Not everyone sits at there computers all day waiting for an email. It was nice to be able to walk away for a while and only have to ckick the tab to open the webmail screen, and not have to hit check for messages.

The registry settings are good for at least keeping the connection alive.

The reason its not in Pro is because pro webmail does not use folder indexing and the load associated with automatically re-loading the message list is an issue. Because enterprise uses folder indexing, it is possible for it to re-load the message list as new messages arrive - hence exhibiting the behaviour you mention.

The new v2 (.net) releases of webmail will be better suited to address the notification issue; although I am not sure whether the V2 pro webmail provides the notification feature. (beta releases are scheduled for next month - so we will find out then).
