All outgoing mail is "BAD MAIL". WTF????

Post by bozak »

Hello.

I have a most serious issue with mailenable. I had been used me pro, but got a new server which came with ME standard.

ALL of the mail I sent out, gets put in "BAD MAIL".
no retries, no spooling .. nuthin.

I'm about to read through the KB, but this is a BIG PAIN. I have my settings the same as they were before on the other ME server.

here is a snippet from the SMTP log:

what is causing all this mail to be BAD mail? (I'll read the Kb in a sec)

I am running a plesk server with spamAssasin as well (seems to working fine for incoming mail)

I'll keep scanning the forums, but would appreciate help as this new version of ME is totally useless at this point.

I'm sure it just got misconfigured by the f**** ISP before they released it to me.

thanks a lot

solutiion ...

Post by bozak »

I found my problem. The default folders for outgoing SMTP were not present.

somehow the Outgoing, and Messages folder beneath that, had been deleted (or never set up).

anyways.

I made sure those folders were there for the SMTP connector and restarted service.

never could find a list of debug codes for the MTA (even with google) ...

but the issue is sovled, and once again, it was not mailenable that was the problem.

f**** newb users ....

: )

Thanks for the information bozak, if you find at some time how the folders got removed I would be intereseted to know I found the same problem on a server a while ago.

how the folders got removed.

well.

I certainly don't want to admit it ... but denying it would be total self ownage.

I deleted them.

(hey .. at least I can admit I was the pigfu****).

m problem started with ME SMTP taking 100% of the cycles of the CPU.
I saw it had 9000+ emails that were trying to go out to "dedicated@myisphere.com" from "dedicated@myisphere.com"

ONce I saw this, I tried to track down what was causing the loop, or for that matter which process was sending the mail). I never could.
I did delete the messages via windows, and apparently in my frenzied newbship, delted the outgoing and messages folders in the outbound directory.

(well what did I think was gonna happen, deleting system folders and what not)

so ... anyways...

my clue came when I tried via MMC MailEnable to look at the outbound SMTP queue. When i did this mE said, error, can't find the outgoing folder.

I added that folder back, nothing .. addded the messages folder, then restrated SMTP service and presto chango.

so once again, MailEnable is just fine, it's just me deleting system directories.

or I could be an ass and say I don't know what happened.

I would like to know a few other things about securing ME from sending spam to me (aside from having spamAssasin, and the blacklists which always seem to have some "legitimate" clients on it) .. but thats another post.

For all my retardation and frustration, I want thank all at mailEnable for :

1. making an awesome product, that is possible to diagnose the issues if you know where to look.

2. having staff read these forums and offer real solutions

3. being patient with retarded users

I did unfortunately run into the loop SMTP nightmare, which is on another post so I won't go into it here. It was a Plesk/Dr.Web problem, and not MailEnable (it never is, or at least in my 4 years of rolling ME). Had to do with a virus being sent to ME, Dr.web geeking out, and delivering 16000 messages to my inbox.

OUCH.

Anyways. cheers to MailEnable. they rule.
