PTR record when hosting multiple domains

Post by fstover »

I'm confused. Mailenable standard edition. If I run multiple domains, one bound smpt ip address. What should the ptr record be? The defualt mail domain name in the smpt properties page?

example: I'm hosting a.com, b.com, c.com. the defualt name is mail.a.com. should the ptr record be mail.a.com?
Does it matter? are the big boys; aol etc only looking to see if the ptr record exists and the description doesn't really matter?
If so, should the defaul name/ptr record description be more generic, i.e.

confused
