Mailbox keeps receiving the same mail 1000's of times now
Mailenable Enterprise 10.40
Hi all, Am looking for some advice and or guidance.
One of the Mailboxes in one of our Postoffices is receiving the same mail over and over again
We have manually deleted the duplicates from both the webmail inbox as well as the file explorer on the mailenable server.
We have also re-indexed the mailbox using both the request search index in the mailbox's control panel as well as renaming the index file in the mailbox.
The mail just keep coming.

Hi,
How do they connect to the server? What email client and protocols are they connecting to? I.e: via POP or IMAP? Also check if the user has not configured a POP retrieval and is popping messages to it self. Have you analysed the SMTP log files to see where the messages are originating from?

Hi Ian,
I hope you are doing well.
They use IMAP on Outlook and mail enable Webmail.
They don't use POP3.
They are spam reports from our spam server so they are legitimate, its a report for one day (this Monday) but it still keeps keeps getting recieved.

I Asked the users to try recreating on their end which didn't sort the issue, in the end we copied the emails to a temp folder and then deleted the account, recreated it and then copied the emails in to the folder and monitored for a period of an hour to see if same thing occurred. This appears to have resolved the issue

Hi Support,
I thought this was resolved but it keeps happening.
Steps We've tried
Our Mailenable Server is fully up to date and it has 50+postoffices,
The Account that has issues is part of a postoffice that has 33 mailboxes, But only this one account receives duplicates.
Please can this be looked into as this is quite urgent.

Further to add to that a lot of these messages contain this error in the body:
This message has been partially recovered because an error occurred when
it was deleted from the mailbox.
The System ID associated with this message is:
C6E2BE5294404A5497996260F281BB25.MAI
You can safely delete this message if you no longer require it.

Hi,
Are they still the spam report emails? Is the SMTP service receiving all the messages? I can't tell from your posts as to whether you are receiving multiple copies via SMTP, or whether they are being duplicated after they have been received (by either a client or a looping migration). The "This message has been partially recovered" messages would indicate the index is not matched to the messages - if you are just deleting files from the folder it would be causing this. If the spam software is sending the same message over and over see if there are any problems in the SMTP debug log.

The only thing in the debug log is that the account is authenticating.
They are not spam report emails but multiple emails.
They are being duplicated after they have been received (by either a client or a looping migration).
We are deleting as they come in as they fill up the mailbox quota.

Also We spent a bit of time looking at the spam server and there were only 32 verified emails that went through the spam filter to the mailbox, and the mailbox recieved over 10000. We looked through IMAP and SMTP debug and nothing was there. In SMTP and IMAP activity there are 207 entries in the log for each time send and receive, and they all say login complete, no extra emails etc. The only thin in IMAP activity is correct logins, and in debug there are a few "invalid username or passwords. Nothing untoward which would indicate 10000 emails.
We can post the logs if you would like to have a look.

Get them to look at it via a teamviewer.
Much easier.

After recent update and restart of server, this issue appears to have resolved itself. If it continues I will update the thread.
