Can We Change MailEnable SMTP Connector Welcome Text?

Post by Ruffs » Sun Jan 14, 2007 4:25 pm

Hello there,

Just as an example:

Code: Select all

220 mail.example.com ESMTP MailEnable Service, Version: 0--2.36 ready at 01/14/07 16:21:50
Is there a way we can change this text, as obviously it is a little foolish giving away details of the software you use, and version to spammers, as they will likely use any weaknesses known against your self proclaimed server now they know specifically which type and version it is.

Ideally we would like to change this to the minimal, or a user changable text, to throw off regular spam visitors:

Code: Select all

220 mail.example.com ESMTP ready at 01/14/07 16:21:50
as an example.

Is there a way to do this currently through the registry or other settings I haven't found yet?

Kind regards

Under the Security Tab: It says "Use an alternate welcome message" check the box and enter your message. The time stamps are done automatically so you do not have to worry about that just enter "mail.example.com ESMTP"
