WebMail Admin - Sorting email addresses in Lists

Post by Ptarver »

I have a client with around 500 email addresses in a list that they send newsletters and updates to on a regular basis. It is very cumbersome manage this list via the Webmail Admin screen because when you click 'Edit' on the list and the members are displayed, the members cannot be sorted or searched as far as I can tell.

Is it possible, or could it be possible to allow this list to be sorted somehow, even if it were a manual process the admin would have to do say with a button under the 'Delete Member' button that would sort the list alphabetically, write the list back out to the file alphabetized and then reload the list for further editing?

Currently, I'm exporting the list for them occasionally, and while I'm sure I could export, delete all and reimport the sorted list, this would have a very short shelf-life since as soon as the first change was made the list would again be out of order.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Enterprise Edition 3.03. The list can be sorted on the server when using MMC. But when I edit the list using the WebAdmin via a web browser the list is not sorted.

Thanks!

Upgrade to the latest version from the MailEnable web site and see if this helps if not then you may need to submit a support ticket as the mailboxes are sorted for me here.

Make sure you are accessing the HooDooo web mail base also, you can tell this be ensuring HooDoo is contained in the URL link when you are logged in.

Ok, I did the update to version 3.04 and checked again and while 'Lists' ARE sortable, when I click 'Edit' a list, and the Edit Window opens the 'Members' are NOT sorted nor is there a way to sort them.

I'm not sure if you misunderstood my original message or not, but the customer only has one (1) list with over 500 members and it is the members we need to sort when we edit the list.

I also checked the release notes on version 3.0 and I can't find anything that mentions that the members of a list will be sorted when you edit the list. The only way they would be sorted is if I export the list members to a .CSV file, open the file in Excel, sort the list, save it to a .CSV, delete all of the members from the existing list, and then reimport the .CSV list of members. This will not work since the list is updated on a daily basis.

Please advise.

Terribly sorry I did misconstrued your question, in the later versions there was an addition that allowed the mailboxes to be stored in alphabetical order within Web Admin. However the list members are still ordered in their entry order.

The only way to order the addresses at present would be if you changed the storage provider to an SQL database rather than flat files. I am going to create a issue in our internal register however that requests for this to be updated in a future release as I do see how painful that could be for you and your customer.

Thank you very much! I think that there are other people who would appreciate having this capability as well. I'm perfectly content to have a button on this screen to click to sort, it doesn't have to be automatic since this might slow things down a bit opening the Edit screen.

Thanks again!
