Email Sending, Site Not Receiving

Post by gman1120 »

I have MailEnable 2 Enterprise setup. Some of my users have been complaining that emails they send don't make it to the recipient. Looking at the logs, it appears the messages make it out and no error message is received back. Has anyone seen a similar problem? Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Post some snippets from your smtp-activity logs.

Here is a log entry for one of the messages. I replaced the recipients domain with SENDTO and my domain with MYDOMAIN and changed the IP addresses. Thanks for your help!

with you changing the domain and ip info i can't confirm things are going to the right place, you'll need to do that on your own.

but it definitely seems like email is leaving your server, and something is receiving it. once it's on the receivers end (and you're sure it's the right receiver) there isn't much you can do unless you can get hold of that servers administrator.

Same problem but I detect this:

hey gman1120 I have noticed this weird thing about it, I wonder if you too.

Here is the deal:

If I send an e-mail from my user@mydomain.com to user@hotmail.com, user@yahoo.com, etc... , I have no error and seems to be that the message it's being send with no problem, but the message never arrives to the hotmail or yahoo user.

Even making a test using SMTP diagnostics software does not register or alert any kind of error.

Now, if a hotmail or yahoo user sends me an e-mail to my user@mydomain.com account and then I reply that e-mail, presto the hotmail or yahoo user gets the e-mail with no problem at all.

So I wonder, what the heck !!!

- user@mydomain.com to user@hotmail.com = no get the message.

- user@hotmail.com to user@mydomain.com = message received.

- user@mydomain.com to reply message that was sent by user@hotmail.com = message received.

The latter issues sound like DNS problems. Try using a service like www.dnsstuff.com to verify if your DNS and mail server is set up correctly. Remember, when you send messages out you have to bind an IP address and a domain. Make sure when you also do an nslookup for that domain that it resolves with something fairly accurate and not a bunch of stuff.
