SMTP: error in processing

Post by srich »

I have 2 MailEnable Enterprise servers in a cluster. I am not able to relay any email via SMTP on the member server. Here is what I get in the log.

06/17/10 13:59:33 SMTP-IN 2BE9D4A2D8F44FF18EE0AF33EC047A6E.MAI 696 10.10.0.103 MAIL MAIL FROM:<user@domain.com> SIZE=21685 250 Requested mail action okay, completed 43 47 username

I have completely uninstalled MailEnable, cleaned the registry, deleted remaining files, and reinstalled and reconfigured MailEnable on the member server which did not change anything.
When I test manually from a command prompt; I noticed that when I got to the DATA command, the SMTP service seemed to hang. I could type the message but when I entered a period (.) alone to terminate the DATA, the SMTP service does not respond. The SMTP service does not crash and nothing is reported in the Windows Event logs.

Hi,

Sounds like a permissions problem. Run process monitor (http://www.sysinternals.com) on the servers and filter on "MESMTPC.exe" to see if there are any "Access denied" errors. Do you see any failures within the MailEnable diagnostic report? If you have reverse DNS blacklisting enabled within the SMTP properties try turning this off. If you are unable to determine the issue then the best way forward would to lodge a support ticket so that a technician can log in and diagnose further.

I know this message is super old, but I wanted to add my experience to it. Had this exact same problem. Ran process monitor and mesmtpc.exe was returning DISK FULL even though there were 20gb of free space on the drive, and i was able to create new files myself just fine. I ran a check disk on the drive, and after the reboot the problem went away.

I had already tried the permissions issue and rebooting just for the heck of it before running check disk.

Maybe this will help someone else.
