SPF "WhiteList" for backup SMTP servers ?

Postby lyceepasteur » Wed Jun 23, 2010 3:25 pm

Hi,

I had set the following property:
SMTP properties > Sender Policy Framework > Reject emails from connections which fail SPF.

I recently configured a backup MX server.
In the SMTP Activity log I found this error for mail being sent from the backup MX server.
"554 This server requires you to send from an IP address specified by the SPF for {domainname}."

Is there a way to setup a "whitelist" for SPF not blocking mails sent by my backup MX servers ?

Thanks,
Eric

Hi,

Have you enabled the option within the SMTP SPF properties window "Dont check connections from local IP addresses". Also you can whitelist the IP address of the backup MX server by adding the IP address within the SMTP whitelist which will bypass the SPF checks.

Ian

Can you elaborate on the "Dont check connections from local IP addresses" stands for? Does this apply to IP on the SAME subnet? class?

Hi,

I enabled the option : SMTP properties > Whitelist > Enable Whitelist
I added 66.231.182.102 in the IP adresses list, which is one of my backup SMTP servers.
I enabled the option : SMTP properties > Sender Policy Framework > Reject emails from connections which fail SPF
I enabled the option : SMTP properties > Sender Policy Framework > Don't check connections from local IP adresses
and I restarted the SMTP service even if it was not asked for.

Here is part of the SMTP Activity log after that configuration:

Code: Select all

Do I have to do something else to avoid SPF check on this IP ?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but what was the outcome of this?

I'm currently facing the same issue.
