Throttling outbound SMTP messages

Post by dslchiphead » Wed Sep 22, 2010 10:50 pm

Is there anyway to throttle the amount of SMTP messages going outbound say per hour (or some measurement)?

Using ME EE V4.12

Thanks!

Hi, Yes there is you can do this on a per mailbox or per post office level at the following locations:

Mailbox level:
ME Admin MMC->Messaging Manager->Post Offices->[Post Office Name]->Mailboxes->[Mailbox Name] (Properties)->Restrictions {TAB}

Post Office level:
ME Admin MMC->Messaging Manager->Post Offices->[Post Office Name] (Properties)->Restrictions {TAB}

The web mail interface is not included in this setting.

I read though if I have a mailing of say 50,000 messages and we set a limit of 3,000 per hour, the rest of those messages after 3,000 will error out and sent back to the sender. That is not what I am looking for. I want all the messages to stay in the queue and sent/flow from the queue at a rate of 3,000 per hour. Will that restriction do that?

Thanks...

You are better off controlling this in the script or program you are using to send.

Can't. Mail is sent from a 3rd party application that we have no control of how it sends it.
