Hi Roland, I have not seen this problem before. My guess is that there is a permissions problem preventing the updating of configuration files/database.

There should be errors written into the Windows event log if this is the case though (as would running filemon/process mon).
I would suggest raising a support ticket under the upgrade or defect category (which is free) and include your diagnostic report so that your environment can be better understood.
Regards, Andrew

Hi Roland,

did you manage to get this resolved? I have installed the trial and am getting the same issue.

Thanks,
Gary

Are you seeing any errors in the server event logs at the time where the settings are getting saved via the browser Gary? If so what do they say?

Hi, no, no errors in the event logs I can see. I've logged a support ticket and your colleagues say:

The issue does not look to be a problem within MailEnable and more so an environment issue on your server. We can see within the IIS log files for the request when making changing to the mailbox options the following:

2011-01-23 23:54:01 W3SVC1 <ipaddy> GET /Rejected-By-UrlScan ~/mewebmail/Mondo/Servlet/request.aspx?Cmd=SET-MBX-OPTIONS&Browser=2&Options=%3Coptions%3E%3Coption%3E%3Cname%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BMailBox-SpamFilteringStatus%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fname%3E%3Cvalue%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5B1%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fvalue%3E%3C%2Foption%3E%3Coption%3E%3Cname%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BMailBox-SpamFilteringData-Low%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fname%3E%3Cvalue%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BInbox%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fvalue%3E%3C%2Foption%3E%3Coption%3E%3Cname%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BMailBox-SpamFilteringData-Medium%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fname%3E%3Cvalue%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BInbox%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fvalue%3E%3C%2Foption%3E%3Coption%3E%3Cname%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BMailBox-SpamFilteringData-High%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fname%3E%3Cvalue%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BInbox%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fvalue%3E%3C%2Foption%3E%3C/options%3E&DT=1295826878767 80 - 218.214.147.46 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US;+rv:1.9.2.13)+Gecko/20101203+Firefox/3.6.13 404 0 2 1795 1246

You can see that there is some sort of URLScan occurring and rejecting the request. Inspecting the server configuration i can see that there is a URLScan.ini file in the following location. You may want to review this and make the relevant changes: C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\urlscan

You also see the following within the URL scan log file:

2011-01-23 23:54:01 <ipaddy> 1 GET /mewebmail/Mondo/Servlet/request.aspx?Cmd=SET-MBX-OPTIONS&Browser=2&Options=%3Coptions%3E%3Coption%3E%3Cname%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BMailBox-SpamFilteringStatus%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fname%3E%3Cvalue%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5B1%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fvalue%3E%3C%2Foption%3E%3Coption%3E%3Cname%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BMailBox-SpamFilteringData-Low%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fname%3E%3Cvalue%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BInbox%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fvalue%3E%3C%2Foption%3E%3Coption%3E%3Cname%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BMailBox-SpamFilteringData-Medium%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fname%3E%3Cvalue%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BInbox%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fvalue%3E%3C%2Foption%3E%3Coption%3E%3Cname%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BMailBox-SpamFilteringData-High%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fname%3E%3Cvalue%3E%3C!%5BCDATA%5BInbox%5D%5D%3E%3C%2Fvalue%3E%3C%2Foption%3E%3C/options%3E&DT=1295826878767 Rejected disallowed+query+string+sequence query+string - <

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me and these guys have suggested I log a paid ticket. Obviously I'd rather not do this just yet but try to get it sorted for free - any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
Gary

Hi guys,

Further to this, interestingly if I change the skin to HooDoo then i do not get the issue, it only occurs when I use Mondo.

Any thoughts?

Hi gjunderhill,

What windows version are you using? If 2003 or 2008, you can just disable the Url-Scan IIS under the site running the webmail. Simple fix, not sure why any one would have url-scan on a 2003,2008 server. Because alot of that is now built in, compared to windows 2000. The module will be under ISAPI filters in IIS.

Basically the url-scan is blocking the links that have those %3c, %3C, %5D, etc..

There's your free easy solution.

Great stuff. Thanks for that. i've turned on the spam options now, and followed this article:
http://www.mailenable.com/kb/content/vi ... D=ME020493

but my spam still isn't getting blocked/recognised as spam. Is there anything else I need to do do you think?

Cheers.

Have you checked the headers of the emails? Do they have a spam score in the header, as outlined in the article?

Hi Ben, yes, they do, below is an example. I'm just not sure what to do with the information. Do I need to be more aggressive with my SPFs? Please could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

It is probably a bit of trial and error in this situation. The message has passed most things so was weighted accordingly the only real failure was the Bayesian Score which in this case appears to have been on the money as I assume this message was a spam message.

You can try two things you could lower your minimum threshold to 20 which would mean that this message would be low level of being spam which is correct or you could raise the above 90% Bayesian score to 60. Of course this all depends on the quality of your dictionary and how much trust you put in the Bayesian. I like Bayesian I think it is under utilized but the downfall is that spammers now put a lot of good wording into the message (usually hidden) which can affect the Bayesian score.

Have you enabled Greylisting at the SMTP level? Have you configured Spamcop and Barracuda as two blacklists under the Reverse DNS Blacklist at the SMTP level? If not then these can help a lot with spam.
