Hi,

Do you mean the default password for a mailbox account? What version of MailEnable Enterprise are you referring to? In version 5.5 there is added password policy options where can set a policy for password character length. Right click "localhost" within the administration console and access the properties window. Next navigate to the "policies" tab.

yes we have just upgraded to version 5.5

This option I know, but I mean limiting the default password option to specific letters, etc, We don't want the special characters, we want it to be limited to ex. A-Z, a-z, 0-9.......

The previous version did not include & # $, etc .....

Hi,

Within the new password policy options window you will see an option to enable/disable "Must contain at least one symbol". Have you disabled this option?

Hi,

PM (private message) the example password you are trying to add for a mailbox with the password policy enabled.

i do not understand your question ...

I use the button generate password and there is allways a special character in there, I like to limit the generate button, manual entering is no problem

Hi,

The generate random password for a mailbox does not take into affect the password policies. This is something we will look at changing for future versions. For now you have to add a new password manually when using password policy checks.

I would also like the ability to be able to choose what characters are included in the random password generation

For example my current policy is less strict than I want my default passwords to be
Enforce password policy ==> checked
Must contain mix ==> unchecked
Must contain at least one letter ==> unchecked
Must contain at least one numeric characater ==> unchecked
Must contain at least one symbol ==> unchecked
Must be minimum of 7 characters ==> checked

But I would like the option to make all random passwords
Letters ==> checked
--- Mixed case ==> checked
Numbers ==> checked
Symbols ==> unchecked
Number of characters ==> 8

Hope this can be implemented sooner rather than later.

Thanks

DId this ever get implemented? I have run into this issue repeatedly over the years. I finally went to research how to specify what characters are used when generating a password and found this post from 11 years ago. Being able to prevent certain characters from being used is essential for integrations and customer experience.
Thank You,
