Sophos Antivirus

Post by onlyamd4000 » Tue Apr 26, 2016 4:11 pm

I currently have Sophos scanning emails on my enterprise version of ME (9.12). Everything works fine but what I am noticing is that Sophos has a pretty long scan process per email. Approximately 30 seconds per email to complete. If I set the MTA thread to 1, all emails get scanned but the inbound Que fills up pretty quickly and delays email times. If I set the thread to 2, it seems while one email is being scanned, other email coming in during this period will blow right by the scanning process and not be scanned. Is there a way to have multiple emails being scanned at one time?

Hi,

MailEnable will call the scanner if you set if you set the MTA to run more than 1 thread. But the Sophos command line scanner may not like running in multiple instances. Have you tried installing ClamAV that we provide in our installer for AV scanning.

A note that ClamAV by itself does not seem to be all that effective. There is a way to beef up it's performance. Check out this thread.

Have a look at sanesecurity.com for add-ins for ClamAV. Increases my Spam/AV hit rates gigantically.

I have another post on how to install it. It is pretty simple.

MXScan does what you need and if you're concerned about a virus tie in also the Avast software.
