Subscribe message sent to all subscribers

Post by shotgun » Fri Aug 19, 2016 3:01 pm

I have a local church client that has a membership news list. Every time they add a new subscription recipient, the entire list gets an email with "subscribe" in the subject and body of an email. How do I stop this. The membership is confused and upset.

Hi,

What version of MailEnable Enterprise are you running? Does the subscriber get added as a member to the list? Check the "List server" log files at the time and post up some log snippets.

Hi,

The subject of the message is being encoded and thus the reason the subscribe if failing. How is the client sending the subscription message? What email client is being used?

Subscribers were imported by myself using server console (MMC). The email is being sent from the clients Outlook by emailing the list email.

Settings:
The list is moderated
Track and send results are checked
List mode: email subscriptions are not permitted
Only List members can post to the list
Subscribers reply to moderator address
Subject is not altered
attach header unchecked and no headers entered
attach footer is checked and HTML footer has been added
Under messages no selections

Hope that helps.

Hi,

I'm not to sure I understand. I thought the initial problem was when a recipient tries to subscribe to the list and all list members receive the subscription notification. Looking at the list settings the list is moderated therefore all messages sent to the list would first be sent to the moderator address. Is this not the case?

I can see a few problems here.

Firstly, the list mode is that email subscriptions are NOT permitted so emailing the subscribe request is not going to work (plus the fact that the subscribe request is supposed to come from the email address that must be added to the subscriptions).

Secondly, although the list is moderated, the moderator address is probably that of the one that is sending the subscribe message so the list assumes that the message is okay to send out to all list members.

If email subscriptions are not permitted then subscribers must be added via the MMC, or Admin web.

Cheers,
Brett

We are not trying to subscribe list members via email. But everyone on the list gets a message with subscribe in the subject when an email is sent to the list from the moderator. I am trying to stop the message going to the list with "subscribe" in the subject line.

So the moderator is not sending an email to the list with "subscribe" on the subject line? It's not clear where this subscribe email is actually being generated, but note that anything the moderator sends to the list will be forwarded to all list members.

For my own lists I prefer to use the subject line password method.

Cheers,
Brett
