Issues with smarthost

We would like to use our hosted spam filter's outbound filtering feature. We have enabled it at the post office level on the general tab and it works great overall. However, if you have a redirect to an external address such as a gmail account at the mailbox level it gives the following bounce.

MailEnable: Message could not be delivered to some recipients.
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Recipient: []
Reason: Remote SMTP Server Returned: 550-Relaying from <> is not permitted. Sender IP is

550 []. Please contact support for details.

Any idea how to use this feature correctly so users can still receive email on their local mail enable account as well as a redirected account if they chose?
