SPF Softfail?

Post by jglazer »

Even though I have SPF validation enabled this email still came through with the following in its header:

Received-SPF: softfail (xxx.com: transitioning domain of 139.com does not designate 111.78.35.186 as permitted sender)
client-ip=111.78.35.186;

Why, if it sees its not a permitted sender, did it allow the email to go through?

Hi,

The header indicates a "softfail" and thus why its not rejected. You need to create a message content filter to trigger on SPF validation. Then set the filter criteria to trigger on a "softfail" result. Add the relevant action to the filter.

What is the difference between a soft fail and a SPF failure (which are getting denied).
