ME3 does not work with AVG7.5 Email Server edition?

Post by mlai » Thu Oct 04, 2007 2:42 pm

Hi, I have installed ME3 Enterprise and I also have the AVG7.5 email server license. I have installed the ME AVG7 filter and activated the filter.
When I click test, it says that AVG7 filter appears to be correct.

However, when I looked in the ME anti-virus logs, it always has these errors:

Time Action MessageID Connector Filter Result Account Sender ClientIP
10/04/07 03:22:29 Start - - - - - - -
10/04/07 03:22:29 Error scanning attachment - Command Line Scanner Process ("C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgscan.exe" "C:\PROGRA~1\MAILEN~1\Scratch\12688E~1.MAI\1.ATT" /EXT=* /NOBOOT /ARC /NOMEM /NOHIMEM /NOSELF) took too long and was terminated
10/04/07 03:53:52 Error scanning attachment - Command Line Scanner Process ("C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgscan.exe" "C:\PROGRA~1\MAILEN~1\Scratch\9E8956~1.MAI\1.ATT" /EXT=* /NOBOOT /ARC /NOMEM /NOHIMEM /NOSELF) took too long and was terminated
10/04/07 21:52:41 End - - - - - - -

Any help?

I have the same problem with AVG 7.5 Network Edition (no virus detected for 4 days now which is not normal !) so I eagerly await an answer on this.

Cheers,
Brett

I am also having the same trouble, I also notice similar issues on this forum with other products. I am wondering if this is related to users receiving multiple copies of email where there is more than one (1) recipient. I also use ME filter and DNS blacklisting, which can apparently also cause multiple copies to be created.

I someone from ME could pick up the slack on this thread I'm sure we would all be most appreciative.

From memory the MEFilter and DNS blacklisting issues where solved ages ago. One was timeouts in the SMTP and the other was a MTA issue.

You might want to run the AV command that the MTA runs manually at the command prompt with a test email and see what happens.

My testing shows that the command that ME issues can be run from the commandline without a problem.

What does appear to be a problem is the period of time that the MTA will wait for the command to complete. In the majority of my tests the virus scan runs in about two seconds. From time to time however it will take up to 15 seconds to run the scan (this I am assuming is after a virus signature update which in my case takes place every hour).

Anybody know the correct setting for upping the timeout value for the MTA virus scan ?

I had the same problem

I think you need to specify what to do with the msg.

Go to Messaging manager, post office, filters

And add a filter that have the criteria "Where the message contains a virus"

I also had another problem that was the antivirus command line didn't worked with C:\program files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgscan.exe only with C:\Progra~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgscan.exe

Got there using this 2 links
