Attention to ClamWin users

Post by OwenD » Tue Oct 19, 2004 11:30 am

I note a few of you use ClamWin Av.
You may be getting error messages as of today saying your version is out of date. There have been changes to the signature files that apparently require updates that ClamWin has not (at time of posting) put in place.
I use ClamAv for windows which is a different port. It has been updated to adopt the new signatures.

For those using ClamWin, the following post from the Clamav mail list might help.

Well I setup ClamWin a while ago now and have not had any problems.

My system is currently running:

1. ClamWin
2. F-Prot
3. McAfee

Since installing ClamWin I have had 1 instance of an email getting through, which F-Prot managed to get.

Here is a notification email that I got today, as you can see all is still working:

X-AVAgent: MEAVCLM
Email sent from aaa@bbb.com to [SMTP:cccc@ddd.com] contained a virus.

The email was cleaned.

Hi Martyn,
Not saying it'll stop working. Just that until the engine is updated it can't take advantage of many of the new signatures. Hopefully the ClamWin people are already on top of it. If you check your logs you may see something like this.
lamAV Warning: ****************************************************
ClamAV Warning: *** This version of ClamAV engine is outdated. ***
ClamAV Warning: *** Please update it IMMEDIATELY! ***
ClamAV Warning: ****************************************************

Or this from the FreshClam log

ClamAV update process started at Tue Oct 19 05:20:00 2004
main.cvd is up to date (version: 27, sigs: 23982, f-level: 2, builder: tomek)
daily.cvd updated (version: 535, sigs: 1272, f-level: 3, builder: trog)
WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED - please update immediately !
WARNING: Current functionality level = 2, required = 3
Database updated (25254 signatures) from clamav.antispam.or.id (202.134.0.71).

Anyway, it's just a heads up. I'm very happy with the way ClamAv is working :D

There is a new version of ClamWin available for download.

It uses the latest versions of the signature files and stops this warning message.

Does it work with mailenable standard ????
how do you set the freshclam to retrieve automatically the updated ?
with at command ?
does it remove the attachments or the whole mail ?

Yes you can use the same details for clam-dev. But other things you need to do are download the updates manually using frechclam.

To use AV scanning you need to be running ME Pro.
