Webmail and Mcafee dailyscan.zip

Post by at » Mon Apr 18, 2005 9:26 am

I'm using ME Pro trial version.

I have read this KB article for assistance:
http://www.mailenable.com/kb/viewarticl ... 020287.htm
and all have be done by the book.

I have using webmail to send some messages with eicar.com as Attachment and the eicar.com is not deleted.

Testing with the command line scan.exe:

D:\scan>scan eicar.com /analyse /noboot /nomem /unzip
McAfee VirusScan for Win32 v4.40.0
Copyright (c) 1992-2003 Networks Associates Technology Inc. All rights reserved.
(408) 988-3832 LICENSED COPY - Sep 23 2004

Scan engine v4.4.00 for Win32.
Virus data file v4100 created Apr 05 2005
Scanning for 121807 viruses, trojans and variants.

Scanning D: [Local Disk]
Scanning D:\scan\EICAR.COM
D:\scan\eicar.com ... Found: EICAR test file NOT a virus.

Summary report on D:\scan\EICAR.COM
Total files: ........... 1
Clean: ................. 0
Not scanned: ........... 0
Possibly Infected: ..... 1

Time: 00:00.00

When I run MTA in debug and send, using webmail, a message with the eicar in attach I just receive this with no activity:

Looking at the screenshot of the debug output of the MTA agent, it seems that the filtering is not enabled. Have you created a virus filter? Follow the instructions below on how to create a virus filter and how to enbale the filtering.

1) In the administration program, expand the Servers->localhost->Filters branch and click the MailEnable Message Filter icon. On the right panel there should be an item "MailEnable Antivirus Filter". Make sure that it is "Enabled".

2) Double click the item in point 1 above. Click the McAfee VirusScan item and make sure that the Enable selected anti-virus checkbox is enabled.

3) Click the "Options" button for the screen that appears in step 2 and make sure that the path to the virus executable is valid.

4) Click the "Test settings.." button for the screen that appears in step 2. Please note that not all virus scanners work properly with this test.

5) When you double click the filter item that you created, make sure that the "Filter Management" window which appears does not indicate that filtering is disabled for the server (this will appear in a yellow box at the bottom of the window).

More information on troubleshooting filtering can be found in this KB article: http://www.mailenable.com/kb/viewarticl ... 020356.htm
