Webmail - 8.51 - Server Communication Failure

Post by tstrip111 »

Been having issues where users will all the sudden lose connection to the mail server. Often times for minutes while they keep refreshing and finally get back in. I have tried several of the reccommendations like the .net 2.0 thing in the BIN directory, extending the timeout. Checked for potentential network issuess.... Please help

The message they get is.... Server communication failure. Please refresh your browser and try again.

Hi,

The first step is to download version 8.60 from the downloads page and perform the upgrade to eliminate problems in the 8.51 kit your running. Also if available use the Microsoft 4.0 .NET framework for the web mail client.

Thanks Ian,

I have performed the upgrade and you said that all my users machines should have .net 4.0 correct?

Hi,

No, I was referring to running the MailEnable application pool for the MailEnable web interfaces (MailEnableAppPool) under the 4.0 framework. You can set this by running the "meinstaller.exe" utility located within the MailEnable BIN Folder and executing the file. In the options window execute option 13. When prompted select the 4.0 Framework. If it snot available then you will need to install 4.0 on the server.

I have upgraded and moved it to dot net 4.0 as suggested and the issue still persists. When I go the users pc's i am not able to ping the mailserver. However, when try to RDP into the mailserver from the problem pc, the ping magically comes back and the user is able to access webmail. Any other suggestions?

Hi,

At the time of the "Server communication failure" error presented on the client machine when accessing web mail, login to the MailEnable server at the same time and try to access the web mail interface locally on the server via http://mewebmail.localhost to see if its accessible.
